It had painedhim considerably, though the pain was never great at any time.No pathological examination was made in this case, for there couldbe no question about the diagnosis. He received thirty x-ray ex-posures, twenty during the first and ten during the last course, al-lowing six weeks to intervene. Fig. 119.—Cancer of the face. was completely covered with a thick, dense, hyperkeratotic growth,beneath which exuded a mucopurulent discharge. A dense tumor,about 2 inches in diameter and 1% inches thick, was located beneaththe right eye, while a second hard, horny growth was located justto the left of the nose, near the malar eminence. Strange to say, hesuffered little or no pain, and his health was fairly good for a manin this condition and 77 years old. A study was made of the tumoron the right side of the face, and it proved to be epithelioma ofa low grade, which accounted for its slow growth and painlessness.Marsdens paste was used over the large tumor on the right side X-RAY THERAPY 281 of the face, and the remainder of the work was done with the x-ray.He at once improved rapidly, and after twelve months (2) therewas hardly any evidence on the left side of the face of the formertrouble, while on the right side there was a place about the size of adime just over the malar bone
