(6) Ascending tuberculosis may arise from a similar affection ofthe bladder. The mucous membrane of the ureter becomes thickened andthe pel\^s and calices also become affected. On clinical examination enlarge-ment of the kidney is the next manifestation. Radiography may be helpfulin demonstrating the enlarged kidneys ; and when caseous matter is presentor abscesses form, the negative may show these affections, (c) Primarytuberculosis of the kidney is generally miilateral, and commences as a depositof tubercle in the cortex or at the base of one of the pyramids ; a caseousmass forms, which may extend widely, causing disintegration of the kidneysubstance. Enlargred Movable Kidney.—This may be (a) simple, or (6) compli-cated by calculi. The kidney may be found to be freely movable, and maybe palpable.
