De Land pool. Sewing plane wing fabric. The ladies sewing circle has a grim meaning in De Land, Florida these days. Here's one of its daily sessions, sewing fabric on airplane wings they hope will be flying over Germany some day soon. Nearest the camera is Joyce Newsom, instructor in De Land's vocational school, giving lessons in the new art of sewing to two grandmothers. Left is Mrs. Gussie Ryals, who has an invalid husband and five grandchildren. Right is Mrs. Ruth Klug, whose husband fought through the first World War, who has two grandchildren, and a boy in a bombing squadron in Australia. Both grandmothers soon will take their places on the assembly line of an aircraft factory

Conversion. Copper and brass processing. This sample of brass strip is being tested on a Rockwell Hardness Testing Machine. This test is based upon the depth a steel ball penetrates the metal. A minor load is applied first to hold the ball in position, and then a major load is applied. The dial on the machine measures the depth of the penetration. This test is made to check the physical properties of the metal. Chase Copper and Brass Company, Euclid, Ohio

The Metal X 3-D printer, the world’s first Atomic Diffusion

description

Summary

The Metal X 3-D printer, the world’s first Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing machine, provides 3rd Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd Marine Logistics Group the ability to design and create intricate metal parts and tools for III Marine Expeditionary Force at a moment’s notice on Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan, Jan. 8, 2020. III MEF is the first MEF to own and operate the Metal X 3-D printer, saving III MEF the time it would take to order, traditionally manufacture and ship parts. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
