AN IMPROVISED STEREO EQUIPMENT By J. B. GALE S far back as I can remember my love for stereo-grams was greater than for any other kind ofpictures, and I resolved that if I ever madepictures they would be of this kind. That wasmany years ago, but I never forgot that reso-lution. A great many years later (I am now nearly sixty years old)I acquired a 3^ x 4^ camera, just a cheap one, and startedout to make stereo pictures. You can imagine my disappoint-ment when I tried to mount them and found they did not showany relief. Not knowing the reason I gave up. Some time later I found an old British Almanac and in itwas an article on stereo photography explaining the modusoperandi, and giving the reason why stereo pictures wouldstand out and show relief. It also stated that stereogramscould be taken with a single camera and explained how. 232

The illustration makes a description almost unnecessary. The part shown in the center is a slide fitted with a tripodscrew to which the camera is attached, the base of the deviceitself being fitted with a bushing that permits of its attach-
