Make one ofthese for each plate holder, using the extra one for the ground-glass, so when placed on the ground-glass, the opening willshow the exact picture as it will appear on the card. The postcards are placed in the cardboard opening so theback of the card will touch the adhesive tape, then the card-board is placed in holders so the sensitized side will be towardthe lens. If a postcard size camera is used, place the cardsdirect in the holders, face side toward lens. The picture isthen exposed directly on the card. Under-exposure will makeno difference, but be careful not to over-expose. The card is then developed in the dark-room in weak de-veloper, until only the faintest outline shows. Fix and washthoroughly. The following is a good developer, though anydeveloper used for postcards will answer:— Distilled water 32 fluid ounces Ortol 60 grains Sodium Sulphite (Anhydrous) 2 ounces Sodium Carbonate (Anhydrous) ... ij/^ ounces Hydrochinon 100 grains Potassium Bromide 6 grains 176

THE VILLAGE STORY TELLER. NANCY FORD CONES. 177 While still wet, color with ordinary water-color paints. At-tractive pen and ink sketches can be made in this way by fol-lowing the faint outlines with a pen. At the summer resorts, so many of the visitors would liketo have a postcard or two, but hesitate at a half dozen or more, while the photographer must necessarily balk at making lessthan this amount with cards, plates, etc., at present prices.Colored cards bring more than the ordinary kinds, so one canreadily see the greater profit in making the picture direct onthe card. I have also found this method extremely convenient in get-ting restless children who could be photographed in no otherway—for the quickest snap will develop up enough outline forpainting. Pictures can be made in this way on all papers I have tried, and, of course, can be made any size. But for money making,I have found the postcard to lead all others. One will find many interesting ways for experiment in thismethod
