Star of Scotland (built 1887; bark, 4m) under way in the stream, undated

description

Summary

Port broadside view. Ex KENILWORTH. Additional information attached to the large print: "STAR OF SCOTLAND had a long and varied career. Built in Scotland as the KENNILWORTH; the shipyard had orders to turn out the finest merchant ship under the British flag. A few years later she burned at Port Costa and was salvaged by the Union Iron Works and came under the American flag. Shortly after the turn of the century she lost her original name KENNILWORTH and became STAR OF SCOTLAND. At the end of her sailing career she became Tony Carnero's gambling ship, the REX, and when that episode ended was re-rigged as a 6-masted schooner and sent to sea again in World War II. STAR OF SCOTLAND was eventually sunk by a German submarine in the South Atlantic."
