The ship's Commanding Officer, Capt. Stan V. De Geus, and the Marine Air Group One Three (MAG-13) Commanding Officer, Col. Mark R. Saverese, unveiled two AV-8B Harriers that had "USS Bonhomme Richard" stenciled on the aircraft. In a symbolic gesture of unity, Savarese had the ship's name painted on all the embarked Harriers.
