The disguise thrown off, the Federal officers knewthat work must be done in order to stop the Guerril-las, and they were not slow in engaging in the un-dertaking. Major Bridge water and Captain Terrellwere untiring in their pursuit of Mundy, Marion andQuantrell. Frank James visited an uncle, and wasnot with Quantrell when that chieftain fought hislast fight at Wakefields house, near the little postvillage of Smiley, Kentucky. That day Quantrellsband was nearly annihilated.
