Summary
Significance: The penstocks and surge tanks were built to conduct water from the intake house (HAER ND-15-D) at Lake Sakakawea to the powerhouse (HAER ND-15-A). The surge tanks primarily provide pressure relief for the penstocks if a turbine should suddenly shut down.
