STS-91 Commander Charles Precourt peers through an airlock like the one that will be aboard the orbiter Discovery when it docks with the Russian Space Station Mir on the ninth and final scheduled Mir docking in late May/early June. Precourt is in KSC's Orbiter Processing Facility Bay 2 for the STS-91 Crew Equipment Interface Test, or CEIT, during which the crew have an opportunity to get a hands-on look at the payloads with which they will be working on-orbit. The STS-91 crew are scheduled to launch aboard the Shuttle Discovery from KSC's Launch Pad 39A on May 28 at 8:05 EDT KSC-98pc460

Production. B-17F heavy bombers. Aluminum cowl sections for B-17F heavy bombers are checked and inspected in the Long Beach, California, plant of Douglas Aircraft Company. Better known as the "Flying Fortress," the B-17F is a later model of the B-17, which distinguished itself in action in the South Pacific, over Germany and elsewhere. It is a long range, high altitude, heavy bomber with a crew of seven to nine men and with armament sufficient to defend itself on daylight missions

Removing cured tube from mold. As the tire molds are all-automatic, so are the tube molds. This one has just opened; all the operator need do is remove the finished tube and put in another raw one. Production. A-31 ("Vengeance") dive bombers. Rear monocoque assembly. These huge vertical jigs are used at the Nashville Division of Vultee Aircraft Inc. for assembling the rear monocoque of the Vultee "Vengeance" dive bombers. A short stairway makes it possible for workers to reach easily all parts of the monocoque sections. The "Vengeance" (A-31) was originally designed for the French. It was later adopted by the RAF (Royal Air Force) and still later by the U.S. Army Air Forces. It is a single-engine, low-wing plane, carrying a crew of two men and having six machine guns of varying calibers
