is a marked frontal protuberance. The child had nineteeth when twenty-two months old. As previously stated the first tooth appearedone month after the thyroid treatment was commenced, or when the child wassixteen months old. The body is well developed—fat. There is no evidence ofrachitis. The chest and spine show evidences of good nutrition. The length of thebody was 50V2 centimeters, or about 20 inches. The secretions of the body werevery torpid. Constipation of a very obstinate form was encountered. There wereseveral fatty growths in the sterno-cleido-mastoid muscle. ^ Three cases of cretinism were presented by me at the Section of Pediatricsof the New York Academy of Medicine, February 11, 1904. ig. 235. • Fii:. 2;u; 40» 722 DISEASES OF THE DUCTLESS GLANDS. The child had a violent fear of water, so much so that the mother had difficultyin bathing her. The hair is very thick and straw-like. The thyroid gland cannotbe felt. The pulse was 90 and of a full bounding character. There was a subnormaltemperatuie which was never higher than 98° F. in the rectum in the evening.Respiration was 16 while quiet and 24 wliile crying. The urine showed traces ofindican, evidently due to the constipation. No albumin or sugar was found. Micro-scopically no uric acid crystals; no casts, and no bacteria were found. When the treatment was first commenced, 1 grain of thyroid was given threetimes a day. This dose was rapidly increased so that after the first week the childtook 2^/2 grains three times a day. The heart was carefully watched and nodisturbance noted from the quantity of thyroid given. In addition, 10 drops ofpure codliver-oil was given three times a day. Cereals, milk, chicken soup,
