Mark the rarefaction of the acromion andof the head of the humerus. showing little if any tendency to involve the bone,unless as the result of unwise operative measures.The joint is swollen, contains fluid, and is butslightly disturbed in its function. The essentialpathological lesion is probably a proliferation of the DISEASES OF BONES AND JOINTS 101 synovia with a resulting effusion in the joint cav-ity. The disease may easily be confused with syn-ovial tuberculosis. The results of treatment by mercury are usuallyprompt and satisfactory. A more severe and more frequent form of syph- syphiliticilis occurs as a proliferative inflammation of the Myelitismarrow and of the inner layer of the periosteumof the bone end, to which an inflammation of thesynovia may or may not be added.
