Construction of Husky Stadium on University of Washington campus, Seattle, October 30, 1920 (MOHAI 8804)
Summary
This image of the construction of Husky Stadium on the University of Washington campus in Seattle was taken on October 30, 1920. The view is from the top of the bowl, looking east, with Lake Washington visible beyond the stadium. The distinct U-shaped design of the stadium was specifically oriented to minimize glare from the early afternoon sun in the athletes' eyes. Construction was managed by Puget Sound Bridge and Dredging Company, a major contributor to the construction of the Pacific Northwest. Many of their projects were documented by noted Seattle photographer Asahel Curtis. The outdoor football stadium has undergone several expansions and renovations, most recently in 2013.
