California Army National Guard aviators form the 40th
Summary
California Army National Guard aviators form the 40th Combat Aviation Brigade work together to secure a 500-pound firefighting bucket onto a platform Sept. 26, 2020, at the Creek Fire helicopter base in Auberry, California. The crew concluded the day’s mission and loaded the bucket onto their CH-47 Chinook prior to returning to Cal Guard’s Fresno Aviation facility. When full, this bucket can hold 2,000 gallons of water. It takes a team to maneuver the bucket for it to be operational. The Creek Fire ignited Sept. 4 and three weeks later it has destroyed nearly 300,000 acres. As of Sept. 26 it isn’t 50 percent contained. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Staff Sgt. Eddie Siguenza)
