ic wall to thesides of the back of the bladder, known as the posterior false ligaments,in the bases of which lie the ureters. Between the two posterior falseligaments lies the recto or utero-vesical cul-de-sac. The lateral false ligaments pass from the lateral pelvic wall to thesides of the bladder, but are not distinctly marked off from the posteriorligaments except by the line of the obliterated hypogastric artery. Underthe fold of the lateral false ligaments pass the vas deferens and thevesical artery. The trne liga/ments consist of reflections of pelvic fascia. The reflec- THE URINARY BLADDER. 19 tion on either side, passing to the side of the base of the bladder, is knownas the lateral true ligament. The anterior true ligament, also known asthe pubo-prostatic, passes from the back of the pubes at the level of thelower border of the symphysis pubis to the front and sides of the bladderjust above the prostate, which the ligament embraces. (Dittel.) anterior ligaments is a depression filled with loose connective tissue andfat, at the bottom of which lies a plexus of veins, in front of the prostate,connected with the dorsal vein of the penis. The urachus itself might be considered a true ligament, as it consistsof fibrous tissue with muscle-fibers prolonged from the bladder on to itslower part. The foetal tubular condition of the urachus may persist, usually in theform of an interrupted cavity lined by an epithelium like that of thebladder. This may open at the umbilicus, and discharge a mucous secre-tion, or, in rare cases, urine may pass through the whole length and escapeat the umbilicus.
