B was struck about fifteen years ago by a bullet from a revolver a little below the distal end of the dorsal surface of thefirst metacarpal. There was no fracture, but the ball glancedround the bone, and caused an extensive laceration of the tissuesat the lower and inner part of the thenar eminence. Forty days after the accident the wound was healed, bub therewas complete loss of power of the thumb.
