The rarity ofsuch an injury to bone and ligament without involvement of the cord is perhaps-equally great. A case of fracture-dislocation of the cervical vertebrae has beenpublished by Ernest Ringrose, M.R.C.S.* It shows that extensiveinjury of the lower cervical vertebrse may produce only few andtransient symptoms. Moreover, the case shows that it was ex-cusable not to diagnose an injury of that kind in the pre-Rontgen-raydays. A boy, aged fourteen, was admitted to hospital on June 28, 1894. Whilstdiving into the river he collided with a man who was swimming by at the time.He was partially stunned, but managed to reach the bank, and was then taken outof the water and carried to the hospital.
