Tests on the cadavershowed that extreme pressure, beyond what would be possible in the liv-ing subject, is necessary to force it open. Intestinal Obstruction.—Eudis-Jicinsky ^ reports two such cases : one^a boy of 10, swallowed a tin whistle, and the usual symptoms of intestinalobstruction followed. The site of the occlusion could not be determinedin the usual way. On X-ray examination, the whistle was found at thejunction of the small and large intestine. On the third day the whistlewas passed. A boy, of 12, had symptoms of obstruction and was in aserious condition. The first diagnosis was one of invagination at thelower portion of the ileum. Oh X-ray examination an obstruction wasfound in the small intestine under the umbilicus. Laparotomy wasperformed, and the obstruction was discovered to be caused by a smallwooden whistle.
