The following descriptionsand drawings are based on those from well-known works on anatomy.The dates given are those which have long been recognised as the correctones, but it is quite probable in the near future that many of those quotedmay have to be revised as a result of systematic investigation on boneossification by means of X-ray examinations. It is possible by this meansto ascertain accurately the normal dates of union, but until the work ofX-ray examination has been completely carried out it will be necessary toutilise the work of the anatomist.
