Low before the Pacific Coast Association ofFire Chiefs at San Francisco: A new feature ofconcern that will, sooner or later, force itself uponthose in your calling is the possible destruction ofwater mains and all underground metal workfrom the use of electric railway circuits having aground return. This destruction, which is due tothe action technically known as electrolysis, con-sists in the corrosion of water mains which have,perforce, become conductors of the electric rail-way current. A remedy of the evil may be hadin converting the circuit from a grounded one

This magnetis separated at the toe about 13 inches in theclear and between the bars of the magnet areplaced two trolley wheels, one immediately pre-ceding the other. These are Insulated from themagnet except that the magnet coils are con-nected in shunt with the trolley wheels. The trol-ley wheels are connected with the motor by wiresnot shown
