Summary
The New S.S. William Norris of Philadelphia. This ship was designed to "ride on the water instead of ploughing through it." Her hull was of wood, but her keelsons of iron, and contained air chambers supposed to keep her afloat in case of disaster; "Rendering her a lifeboat on a large scale." She measured 1267 tons.
