angular, the basecontinuous with the diaphragm, the superior angle prolonged into avertical offshoot, caused by the superimposed shadows of the ascend-ing and descending parts of the arch. In this position many casesof supposed aneurism which show the marked aortic bulge in theantero-posterior examination are shown not to be true aneurisms. Insuspected cases the examination is not complete until this method hasbeen employed. Another important sign in the diagnosis of aneurism, first pointedout by Walsham, consists in a change in the position of the heart, whichcomes to lie more transversely, the right side being apparently pusheddown by the aneurism, with a tilting upward of the apex.
