and the collection of birds is bothrich and attractive. It consists ofmore than thirty-one thousandspecimens, and is probably un-equaled by any collection inEurope. This museum having outgrownthe building in which it was placed,steps were taken to erect an edi-fice adequate for its wants. A lotwas secured at Nineteenth andRace Streets, and on it the finestructure of which we present aview has been in course of erectionfor some time; a large portion ofit was recently completed and oc-cupied. The great value of themuseum, and the utter inadequacyof its late quarters either to dis-play or to preserve it, brought thecitizens of Philadelphia promptlyto its assistance. Visitors to the city should by nomeans fail to see it. It is opento the public on Tuesday andFriday afternoons, at which timesan entrance fee of ten cents ischarged. Adjoining the old Academy ofNatural Sciences stands the LaPierre House, one of the best hotelsin the city. It is six stories high,and will accommodate two hundre
