Eachmember is credited with all payments of premiums andwith interest on yearly balances, and is charged with hisor her proportion of losses and contingent expenses.Any surplus remaining is the sole property of such mem-ber. The company now insures over $7,000,000 worthof property—being an annual gain of about $170,-000—which testifies to the soundness of its principlesand the care in its management. The charter has beentwice renewed and the company still enjoys the highestconfidence of its numerous patrons and friends. Of theoriginal incorporators only two remain—James C. Town-send and William M. Weeks. The former is yet andalways has been president of the company, and the latter,who was the originator of the enterprise, is now actingas assistant secretary. The present ofificers are: JamesC. Townsend, M. D., president; Daniel V. Weeks, secre-tary; William M. Weeks, assistant secretary; George S.Downing, treasurer.
