Letter from Richard Plumer, Newburyport, [Mass.], to William Lloyd Garrison, Feb[ruary] 14th 1860

Richard Plumer informs William Lloyd Garrison that he received several visits at his store by a man who claimed that he had learned that Plumer had previously provided money to a black man to aid his flight to Canada, and informed Plumer that he was sent to Plumer's store by Garrison. Plumer informs Garrison that he noted the man taking the Boston-bound (rather than the Portland-bound) train at the depot, and states that the man in question was the "rascal that called on [Plumer] a year since". Plumer declares him to be an "imposter" who is "quick and can lie like a white man". Plumer declares their expectation of a lecture from Garrison shortly.
