Nathan3, Nathan2, Daniel1), born in Andover,Mass., 28 June 1822, when three years old was taken by his par-ents to Charlestown, Mass., where his father died a year later andhis mother four years afterwards. He was then brought up byhis maternal uncle, Kendall Bailey of Charlestown, and laterworked a while in his employ. From 1847 to 1852 he was cityclerk of Charlestown, and for the next ten years a leather dealerin Boston, residing in Charlestown until 1856 and then moving toBrookline. After the Civil War he established a real estate, con-veyancing, and insurance office in Charlestown which he carriedon for thirty-five years, the latter part of the time with his sons,

ABRAHAM BAILEY SHEDD SEVENTH GENERATION 563 retiring from business in 1901. About 1872 he moved his residencefrom Brookline to Lexington, thence about 1886 to Waltham, andfinally about 1893 to Waverly, Mass., where he became a memberof the Congregational Church and died 11 Mar. 1906, in hiseighty-fourth year. He married in Charlestown, 19 Dec. 1844, Mary Jane GageDyar, born there 24 May 1826, daughter of Smith and Mary Jane(Gage) Dyar. In 1894 she and her husband celebrated theirgolden wedding at their home in Waverly and their wedded lifecontinued for over sixty years. She survived him about threeyears, dying in Somerville, Mass., 18 Apr. 1909, in her eighty-third year. Children, i.-iii. born in Charlestown, Mass., and iv.-vii. born inBrookline, Mass.: i. Eli Mace8, b. 8 Nov. 1845; d. 9 Nov. 1845. ii.
