of her mother was under the guardianship of Mrs.Martha Austin until 17 Apr. 1833. She d. in Charlestown 4 Jan.1839, unmarried. 33. ZECHARIAH4 SHED (10. Ebenezer*, Zechariah2, Daniel1),was born in Charlestown (now Somerville), Mass., 7 Feb. 1744/5.He married as soon as he became of age, lived a few years inCharlestown, and then settled on a large farm in Cambridge nearMount Auburn Cemetery. In the United States Census of 1790he is enrolled as head of a family in Cambridge comprising threemales over sixteen years, three males under sixteen years and sixfemales. His grandson William B.6 Shedd of Maiden, Mass., (1813-1892)gave the following account of the activities of Zechariah4 Shed inthe Revolution. He was a staunch supporter of the Colonistsrights prior to the Revolution and was one of the Minute Menin the famous battle at Lexington, 19 Apr. 1775. During theretreat of the British back to Boston his property was damaged tothe extent of £23-0-0. He was not in the battle of Bunker Hill

Washington took possession of Dorchester Heights on4 Mar. 1776, he teamed over to the fortifications there a large wagonload of bundled hay, wood, facines, barrels, etc., drawn by a yokeof oxen and a pair of horses. When Gen. Burgoynes soldiers camedown as prisoners of war from Saratoga, they were marched pasthi,s house and he took part a short time in guarding them as asubstitute for a lieutenant while they were encamped on ProspectHill, Somerville. He had great faith in the promises of the Conti-nental Congress to pay the currency that passed for money andtook it freely in payment for the provisions he furnished the forcesguarding the prisoners of Burgoyne, and consequently suffered analmost entire loss when this money became valueless.
