RSEBACK. Pair bridge in Bettwys, then, finding itself suddenlyin good society, pulled itself together and swamtense and flat round a curve to present itselfdecorously to what I think we are safe in assert-ing to be the river Conway. It was true thathalf-pay generals and forlorn honeymoon coupleshaunted the bridge and hung round the post-office,that well-appointed conveyances were dailybraying forth with horns the multitudinous entryof the tourist, also that the glass was falling;none the less we should thankfully have turnedthe Tommies down the hill as^ain and remainedwithout purpose or limit at Bettwys. Then, in-deed, might many periods have been instructivelyframed around the names of the Miners Bridge, the Swallow Falls, and Dolwyddelan Castle, allof which the guide-book assured us with chasteesteem were well worthy of a visit. All thatnow remained was to turn away from the parapetof the wooded precipice, from whose edge wewere looking back, and pace lingering forth to-wards Corwen.
