Anderson's Map of Seattle Tide Lands, circa 1907 (MOHAI 13438)

Martin Burdett Crane (1872-1954) came to Seattle in 1892, after time in Alaska searching for gold and piloting boats. For several years he worked between Alaska and Seattle, and as early as 1898, M. B. Crane & Co. of Seattle and Dawson City was advertising in the Seattle Daily Times offering claims in the Klondike District. Crane married Seattle native Ada M. Buck in 1901. By 1905, Crane & Co. was advertising Seattle real estate and would reorganize as M. B. Crane in 1908. Crane would continue to work in area real estate until his retirement in the early 1940s.
This map, from local company Anderson Map Company owned by Oliver Phelps Anderson (1859-1941), shows the area of Seattle Tide Lands and advertises M. B. Crane & Co. in the Alaska Building, offices which they had for less than two years under the M. B. Crane & Co. name. This map focuses on man-made Harbor Island and the new waterways the City of Seattle completed in 1909 at the mouth of the Duwamish River, highlighting lands owned by various railroads.
