Summary

Aerial view of the U.S. Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas (USA), circa in 1941. In response to the expansion of naval aviation during the late-1930s, the Navy selected a site near Corpus Christi for the construction of an air station devoted to training. Commissioned on 12 March 1941, with Congressman Lyndon Johnson present at the ceremonies, NAS Corpus Christi began instructing its first cadets the following month. On 1 November 1941 the station graduated its first naval aviators. During the war years, with the opening of Rodd Field, Cabaniss Field, Cuddihy Field, Waldron Field, and an auxiliary field at Beeville, Texas, the Naval Air Training Center at Corpus Christi graduated thousands of naval aviators.
