"Chamber of horrors." Washington, D.C., Dec. 20. When members of Congress introduce bills on new drug and food legislation they often request the aid of Miss Ruth Lamb, Chief of Public Relations of the Department of Agriculture Food and Drug Administration. Of great help to the Solons in framing bills aimed to protect the public from worthless and harmful products is a display gotten together by Miss Lamb and which she calls the "Chamber of Horrors." It is composed of "before and after" pictures, showing how women have been disfigured by the unknowing use of dangerous cosmetics, death certificates and testimonials are side by side, 12/20

Clerk of House of Representatives holds classes for new congressmen. With the Clerk of the House, William Tyler Page, in the role of proxy, new members of Congress are attending school at the United States Capitol in preparation for the opening session December, 5th. The new solons are being taught how things are done on the floor of the House during a regular session

Cotton state Solons present demands for enactment of farm program to president. Washington, D.C., Aug 5. Led by Senator Ellison D. "Cotton Ed" Smith, of South Carolina, a delegation of congressmen from the cotton states called on President Roosevelt today and presented their demands for enactment of a farm program before congressional adjournment. After the conference a spokesman for the group told reporters he felt the president would make stabilization loans under existing discretionary powers, probably through the Commodity Credit Corporation, on all basic commodities if given "definite assurances" that a farm production control program would be enacted early next session. Idaho spuds presented to vice president. Washington, D.C., Dec. 6. A box of Idaho's choicest potatoes were presented today to Vice President John N. Garnger by Senators William E. Borah, (left) and James P. Pope, both from the famous potato-growing state. The presentation was the signal for challenge issued by the Maine Congressional Delegation to the Idaho Solons for a potato eating contest which will be staged in the House Restaurant tomorrow to test the relative merits of the spuds from the two states. 12/6/37

Congressional hog caller. Washington, D.C. June 9. The Capitol Plaza reverberated with sounds of the barnyard today as Rep. Robert L. Mouton, of Louisana, went into serious training for his coming hog. calling contest with Rep. Otha D. Wearin, of Iowa. The contest, which will take place on the Capitol steps sometime in the new future, is the result of an argument between the two solons as to the abilities of the hog-yodelers from the respective states. Judging from his demonstration today the cameraman is willing right now to place the mantle of champion of Rep. Mouton. 6/9/37

"Most unpopular" member of congress. Washington, D.C., Nov. 30. Representative Ralph E. Church, Republican of Illinois, whose persistency in making points of order and objecting to unanimous consent requests for adjournment, has earned him the title of "The Most Unpopular Member". The House recessed on Thanksgiving Day only "by the courtesy of" rep. Church, as House Leader Rayburn put it. Rep. Church says he is determined that, having been called in special session, the solons stick on the job. 11/30/37

Senate chamber renovated. Washington, D.C., Sept. 28. While the Solons are back home repairing their political fences, workmen are busy doing a face-lifting job on the Senate Chamber. The historic chamber will be completely painted and renovated before the next session of Congress, 9/28/37

Begins training for hog-calling contest. Washington, D.C. June 9. Interest is at fever height in Louisiana for the coming hog-calling contest at the Capitol between Rep. Robert L. Mouton; of Louisiana, and Rep. Otha D. Wearin, of Iowa. So much so that Governor Richard Leche of the bayou state made a special trip, bearing a live porker; to assist Rep. Mouton in his pre-contest training. The contest is the result of a controversy between the two solons of the merits of the hog callers of their respective states. Capitol made ready for return of legislators. Washington, D.C., Nov. 9. Even the air conditioning system is being readied for the legislators when they return on November 15 for the special session. While the session is expected to be a hot one, it will hardly be necessary to turn on the air conditioning to cool off the solons. 11/9/37

Congressional cow milker fold in the stretch. Washington, D.C., June 9. Rep. Harold Knutson, Republican of Minnesota, competing for the milking championship of the 75th Congress with three other representatives today on the Capitol plaza; started off with the grace of an electric milker. However, he folded with the rest of the solons after 10 minutes of effort produced no more than a pint. Rep. Marvin Jones, referee, declared the contest a draw, 6/9/38

How dull a congressional hearing can be is indicated in this picture made today shortly before the House Irrigation and Reclamation Committee reported favorably a bill authorizing the government to extend further relief to water users on federal Reclamation and Indian Reclamation projects. Smelt served to members of Congress at special dinner. Washington, D.C., April 7 -Last night was smelt night at the Capitol and hundreds of the Finny Tribe were served to members of Congress at a special dinner sponsored by Rep. Fred Bradley of Michigan who had the fish shipped down here from his home state. Here we see Michigan Senators Prentiss Brown, left, and Arthur M. Vandenberg demonstrate the correct way of enjoying this Michigan delicacy. The girl in the picture is Miss Barbara Banks, Queen of Smelt, who helped feed the solons, while in the rear is Rep.
