The Cranberry King, Abel D. Makepeace (1832-1916) and his wife, Josephine Crocker Makepeace, moved to Stephen Hamblin's house on River Road in 1880 before moving permanently to West Barnstable. The house looks out on the Baker Bog, named for Makepeace's financier, George T. Baker.

Seapuit Golf Course, one of the first in America, was laid out mostly in Marstons Mills by Francis "Daddy" Parsons. The name Seapuit in Wampanoag means "Little River," appropriate for the first four fairways along the lower Marstons Mills River
