William McIlvaine - The Chickahominy - Sumners Upper Bridge
Summary
Watercolour showing a bridge created by Edwin Vose Sumner's troops to allow crossing of the Chickahominy River, as part of the efforts of the two halves of the Union troops to recombine after the river flooded during the Peninsula Campaign of the American Civil War.
Very conservative restoration, mainly of the outer paper. Crop loose as artwork is not very square; a loose crop makes it look better.
