White-faced ibis (Plegadis chihi), Mojave National Preserve, 2014.
Summary
The white-faced ibis is very similar in appearance to the glossy ibis in its non-breeding plumage (as pictured). However, the white-faced ibis is smaller with somewhat warmer-colored plumage. To tell them apart, look at the eyes: adult white-faced ibises have red eyes year-round while glossy ibises have black eyes. Don't be fooled, as the juveniles are nearly identical. Breeding adult white-faced ibises will have a pink bare face bordered with white feathers, a gray bill and brighter-colored, redder legs.
