Senator has annual birthday party. Every tenth of January, Ernest W. Smoot gives a birthday luncheon for his father, Sen. Reed Smoot of Utah. Leaving his home for the usual morning stroll on his 77th birthday today Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes acknowledges birthday greetings from Alice and Patricia Miller of Brooklyn, New York, who are spending the Easter Holidays in the Capitol. The Chief Justice appears fully recovered from his recent illness and is expected to resume his place on the bench when the high tribunal convenes again on April 17. 4-11-39
