Huge crowds of people are gathered in Whitehall to listen to Churchill's Victory speech and to celebrate Victory in Europe Day. The crowd is a mix of service personnel, civilians and children. Behind them can be seen the Cenotaph. People line the balconies of the buildings on the right hand side of the road. The Ministry of Information played a crucial role in shaping public opinion during the war, and it worked closely with other government departments to develop and implement a range of propaganda campaigns. The Ministry of Information was dissolved in 1946, following the end of World War II.
