U.S. service members walk through a diversion tunnel

description

Summary

U.S. service members walk through a diversion tunnel beneath the Mosul Dam, in Mosul, Iraq, May 12, 2019. The diversion tunnel is 10 meters wide and is used to divert water during dam operations. The Mosul Dam Project started in 2016 headed by the Iraq Ministry of Water Resources in an effort to stabilize the infrastructure of the Mosul dam. The dam serves to generate hydroelectricity and provide water for downstream irrigation. (U.S. Army Reserve photo by Staff Sgt. Joshua Hammock)
