Summary

The DOI Engine Academy is held at the CALFire facility in Ione, Calif. This facility contains a mock town filled with empty homes and cars that help simulate the conditions a wildland firefighter faces in an urban-wildland interface area. Urban-wildland interface areas are where residences are adjacent to wildlands, putting these communities at an increased risk of wildfires.
