THE SECOND RAID ON OSTEND, 10 MAY 1918 Q23117

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Orion crew module is recovered after splashdown in the Pacific Ocean about 600 miles off the coast of San Diego, California. NASA, the U.S. Navy and Lockheed Martin coordinated efforts to recover Orion and secure the spacecraft inside the well deck of the USS Anchorage. After lifting off at 7:05 a.m. EST atop a Delta IV Heavy rocket from Space Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, NASA's Orion spacecraft completed a two-orbit, four-and-a-half hour mission to test systems critical to crew safety, including the launch abort system, the heat shield and the parachute system. The Ground Systems Development and Operations Program is leading the recovery efforts. For more information, visit www.nasa.gov/orion Photo credit: Courtesy of U.S. Navy KSC-2014-4763

description

Summary

Significance: According to a 2014 Cultural Resource Assessment, during its heyday, the Union Stock Yard was a key fixture in largest livestock market west of Denver. The activities at the yard brought Ogden national attention as a livestock center. The rise of the livestock shows, auctions, etc. at the site spurred the local and regional livestock industry, thereby physically shaping the development of the agricultural landscape both near and far. The site retains integrity of location and sufficient integrity of design, workmanship, materials, setting, feeling, and association to convey its connection to the historical period and its function.
