The Reapers in Roumania. Here's the way they garner the grain in Roumania. Small sickles are used, and it takes twenty men and women to do the work one man accomplishes in the American grain belt using modern machinery. Roumania's great wheat crop has insured the country against famine, which reached an acute stage last winter. Now the people are out of hunger danger. Pestilence that came in the wake of famine is being relieved by American Red Cross doctors and nurses who have established medical stations and hospitals throughout the country

American tractors in Serbia. The American Red Cross has thirty farm tractors tilling the soil in southern Serbia. Of all the diseases that broke out in central Europe during the last months of the war and following the armistice typhus assumed the greatest proportion, becoming epidemic in all the countries. For a time there was a grave danger that it would spread to the Western part of the continent. Early in January the American Red Cross sent medical units throughout that part of the world. They carried with them medicines, hospital tents and equipment. A systematic campaign was commenced to arradicate the scourge. In the picture one of the Red Cross ambulances is seen in Serbia bringing Typhus victims to the field hospital

A drove of cattle recovered in Hungary after the armistice. They had been taken from Roumania during the enemy occupation. Roumania recovered much of the Hungarian loot during her recent advance into that country. The recovery of these and many other droves of cows enabled the Roumanians to take over much of the child feeding work that had been carried on by the American Red Cross, leaving that organization free to devote more time to medical operations

Threshing wheat in Croatia. The sheaves are laid on the ground and five horses are driven round and round trampling the grain with their hoofs. Then the straw is thrown into the Air, the chaff blown away by the wind and the wheat grains falling to the ground. American Red Cross workers in Southeastern Europe found these people fairly well off for food, but badly in need of medical attention
