Three Buddhist Statuettes - Dutch East Indies
Summary
Although these three statuettes were found together in Sulawesi, they differ greatly in style. This makes it clear that in Indonesia images coming from many different regions were used. The style of the Buddha on the left is characteristic of Thailand, while the figure on the right probably originated in Borneo. The eight-armed Avalokiteshvara in the centre perhaps belongs to the art of southern Thailand, Malaysia, and Sumatra.
