ys in the bush before theywere found. One of our party, NancyCarstairs, remembers Jane as a very old Mrs TurnbuU who came to talk tothe children at the Natimuk schooland to show them the httle frock thatshe wore during the adventure. At thefoot of the cairn, there was a flourish-ing bush of black nightshade (Sol-anum negrum). We had lunch near the summit ofMt Arapiles where the vegetation isjust recovering after the disastrousbushfires of two years ago (plate 3).Here there were clusters of violetfairy-fan-flower (Sccevola aemula);also the blue grass-lily (Ccesia vittata),chocolate lilies (Dichopogon strictus)and the nodding blue lily (Stypandraglauca) in abundance. Eristemon ver-rucosus (the fairy wax flower) wasblooming, and near the rocky sum-mit was a fine display of golden ever-lastings (Helichrisum bracteatum).
