ugh for the deer. To get beyondreach of this new enemy, they started up theroad, taking the course the locomotive waspursuing. The race became exciting. It was asuperb trial of steam and iron against muscleand lung. The engineer put on steam, andsent his locomotive, with its burdensome train, whirling along the track ; but for many miles—six or seven it was estimated—the frightenedanimals kept ahead, fairly beating their antago-nist. At last the pursued and pursuer got into amore open country. This the deer perceiving, they sprang on one side, and, with unabatedspeed, ran to a safe distance, where beyond reachof locomotive or rifle, they stood and gazed withdilated eyes—their limbs trembling from un-usual exertion, and gasping for breath—at theirfast-receding enemy. Dana—in the next station—simply a sidetrack. It is 674 2 miles from Omaha ; elevation,6,875 feet. DEER RACE WITH TRAIN ON THE U. P. R. R. valleys, will interest the observing tourist if hepasses by in daylight. St, Marys,—681.7 miles from Omaha, withan elevation of 6,751 feet. It is a telegraph sta-tion with accompanying side tack, section-house,etc. From this station to the next, the bluffsare rugged and wild, tha road passing through ashort tunnel and several deep cuts. There isnothing but the changing scenery as you movealong with the train, to relieve this country fromits desolate appearance. Sage brush and grease-wood continue to be the only products of the soil. Walcott,—a side track 689.5 miles from theMissouri River, and 6,800 feet above the sea. After leaving this station, the road winds aroundthe bluffs, passing through some very deep cuts, near one of which there is a stone quarry fromwhich stone is taken by the company for roadpurposes at Green River. A side track to thequarry has been laid and stone easily loaded onthe flat cars used for their transportation. Sud-de

This image dataset is generated from our world's largest public domain image database. Made in two steps (manual, and image recognition), it comprises of more than 35,000 images of all types and sizes - an astonishing number if keep in mind that the total number of steam locomotives ever built was just one order of magnitude larger. All images are in the public domain, so there is no limitation on the dataset usage - educational, scientific, or commercial. Please contact us if you need a dataset like this, we may already have it, or, we can make one for you, often in 24 hours or less.
