The Loyal Beasts or Visionary Addressers, a Dream (BM J,1.91)
Summary
Satire on hypocrites introducing themselves to the new king George III. The king is shown as a young lion seated on a rocky outcrop with a large bison (Lord Bute) looming over him; other animals standi beside him, inlcuding a unicorn, ass and leopard while a monkey kisses his paw; a hog, a crocodile, an ass and animals dressed as stand below, including the Quakers (?) as foxes, an owl as a judge or a bishop, the Lord Mayor of London as a bear with cuckold's horns, and sheep as lawyers or clergymen; other figures follow and in the distance a procession of carriages approaches. In the foreground, to right a magpie whispers in the ear of a young man describing the scene before him. 1760
