Summary
The Citadel of Herat, known to locals as Qala Iktyaruddin, is centrally located not far from the ISAF-staffed (mostly Italian) Herat Provincial Reconstruction Team in Herat City, Herat province, Afghanistan. The historic complex dates back to 330 B.C. and was headquarters to many historic armies, though it now only hosts the National Museum of Herat, cared for by the Afghan Ministry of Information and Culture.
