After this woman was done speaking, the other contradicted her, saying, No,the living is my son, and the dead is thine. And the king called out to hisservants, Bring here a sword! And they brought it. And the king said, Cutthe living child in two, and give half to one and half to the other. Then the true mother of the child, because she loved it, and would not haveit killed, said, O my lord, give her the living child, and on no account slay it.But the other, who pretended to be its mother, said, Yes, cut it in two. It was to find out this thathe called for the sword, not because he intended to slay the child.
