Hewas graduated from Princeton in 1907,and from the College of Physicians andSurgeons, Columbia University, in 1911.At the time of sailing for France he hadan ofiEice at 11 East 48th Street, New YorkCity, and was Roentgenologist to Roose-velt, Park and Volunteer Hospitals. Dr. Hobbs was commissioned a FirstLieutenant in the A. E. F., and sailed forFrance with the Presbyterian HospitalUnit in May, 1917. He was stationed at Base Hospital No. i, A. E. was impressed by his stabilil)- of charac-ter, and this impression grew as I knew himbetter. He was a boy absoluteh to be reliedupon, of entire integrity, steadfast, a firmfriend and one of whom those who knewhim could always be sure. As he grew intomanliood these qualities continued and 154 Editorials 155 were his most striking characteristics. Hewas genial and ready for enjoyment butthere was always the background ofstrength, courage and trustworthiness thatwas felt by all who knew him. Colonel George E. Brewer mentions thesplendid work of Dr. Hobbs at Etretat andspeaks of his great popularity not only inthe hospital but in the village as well. Hewas very much interested in the orphansand children, and it was largely throughhis efforts and those of Mrs. Hobbs thata Christmas celebration for the wholevillage was held. Dr. Hobbs was detailed to study thework at A. E. F. Evacuation Hospital No.I, and Mobile Hospital No. 3 in the frontarea. It was during this work that he con-tracted in
