MILITARY PHOTOGRAPHY By L. G. HARPEL ILITARY photography is one of the most fas-cinating branches of the photographic art. Inorder to be successful a man must have a cer-tain amount of knowledge of military move-ments and tactics, so as to anticipate the shift-ing of troops from one position to another and be ready toget the photograph before, or as soon as, the commands areexecuted. In order to get photographs containing the required amountof action a fairly good equipment is necessary. My experi-ence has been that there is nothing as good as a camera of theGraflex type; although a number of photographs, and verygood ones at that, have been made by the writer with a 3-ASpecial Kodak. The illustrations accompanying this article have all beenmade during the maneuvers of the National Guard of Penn-sylvania, at Mt. Gretna, Penna. In military photography,action is of the utmost importance. If any appreciable spaceof time is occupied in securing photographs, there is always 228
