Aurelio Luini was an Italian painter who was born in Milan around 1530. He was the son of the famous Renaissance painter Bernardino Luini, a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci. Aurelio Luini followed in his father's footsteps and became a painter himself. He worked mainly in Lombardy, where he produced many religious paintings for churches and private commissions. Luini's style was strongly influenced by his father's work, as well as by other prominent artists of the time, such as Titian and Raphael. His paintings are characterised by their bright colours, delicate brushwork and attention to detail. Among Luini's most famous works are the frescoes he painted for the church of San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore in Milan, depicting scenes from the life of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. He also painted a series of frescoes for the church of San Giovanni in Conca, depicting scenes from the life of Saint John the Baptist. Luini died in Milan in 1593, leaving a legacy as one of the most important painters of the late Renaissance in Lombardy. His work is still admired for its beauty and skilful execution.
