KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- Inside the SPACEHAB module, members of the STS-101 crew look at equipment during familiarization activities. From left are Mission Specialist Jeffrey N. Williams , Pilot Scott J. "Doc" Horowitz (Ph.D.), and Commander James Donald Halsell Jr., with Chris Jaskoika, of Boeing SPACEHAB. Mission STS-101 is the third flight in construction of the International Space Station. The 11-day mission is targeted for launch on December 2, 1999, at Launch Pad 39A KSC-99pp0368

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- In the Multi-Payload Processing Facility, STS-107 crew members review test results on the Fast Reaction Experiments Enabling Science, Technology, Applications and Research (FREESTAR) experiments, part of the payload on their mission. A research mission, the primary payload is the first flight of the SHI Research Double Module (SHI/RDM), also known as SPACEHAB. The experiments range from material sciences to life sciences (many rats). STS-107 is scheduled to launch July 11, 2002. In the background, on the stand, are some of the experiments going on the mission KSC-02pd0424

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Technicians in the Space Station Processing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida prepare to lift and load the dexterous humanoid astronaut helper, Robonaut 2, or R2, into the Permanent Multipurpose Module, or PMM. Packed inside a launch box called SLEEPR, or Structural Launch Enclosure to Effectively Protect Robonaut, R2 will be placed in the in the same launch orientation as space shuttle Discovery's STS-133 crew members -- facing toward the nose of the shuttle with the back taking all the weight. Although R2 will initially only participate in operational tests, upgrades could eventually allow the robot to realize its true purpose -- helping spacewalking astronauts with tasks outside the International Space Station. STS-133 is targeted to launch Nov. 1. Photo credit: NASA/Frankie Martin KSC-2010-4441

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - - In the Space Station Processing Facility, STS-114 Mission Specialist Stephen Robinson (left) learns about the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM) from Jennifer Goldsmith (center), with United Space Alliance at Johnson Space Center, and Louise Kleba (right), with USA at KSC. Crew members are at KSC to become familiar with Shuttle and mission equipment. The mission is Logistics Flight 1, which is scheduled to deliver supplies and equipment plus the external stowage platform to the International Space Station.
